Oppo Officially Unveils Find N5 with Surprising Weight Revelation, Pre-Orders Now Live

In a highly anticipated virtual event today, Oppo pulled back the curtain on its next-generation foldable flagship, the Find N5, offering fans a first look at the device’s design, specs, and—most notably—its weight. The Chinese tech giant confirmed the phone will tip the scales at just 235 grams, making it one of the lightest foldables on the market and a potential game-changer for the category.

A Sleeker, Lighter Foldable

During the unboxing livestream, Oppo emphasized the Find N5’s refined engineering, which shaves nearly 10 grams off its predecessor, the Find N4. The weight reduction comes despite upgrades elsewhere, including a larger 4,800mAh dual-cell battery and an improved hinge mechanism designed for durability. For context, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 weighs 253 grams, while Google’s Pixel Fold sits at 283 grams, positioning the Find N5 as a compelling option for users seeking portability.

“[The Find N5] represents Oppo’s commitment to balancing innovation with practicality,” said product lead Zhang Wei. “We’ve listened to feedback about foldables being too bulky, and this device answers that challenge head-on.”

Specs Sheet Leak Confirmed

Details about the Find N5’s hardware had already surfaced earlier this week via a leaked specs sheet, which Oppo tacitly acknowledged during today’s event. The device will feature a 7.8-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.5-inch outer screen. Under the hood, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Camera enthusiasts will appreciate the triple-lens rear setup, headlined by a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 64MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom. The inner display houses a 32MP under-display selfie camera, a first for Oppo’s foldables.

Pricing and Availability

Pre-orders for the Find N5 begin today in China, with global markets including Europe and India following in early March. The base model (12GB RAM + 256GB storage) starts at €1,499, undercutting rivals like Samsung and Huawei. Oppo also confirmed partnerships with major retailers, including an exclusive early-bird discount on Amazon for select regions.

Why Weight Matters

Foldable phones have long faced criticism for their heft, often deterring users accustomed to sleek slab-style devices. By prioritizing weight reduction without sacrificing screen size or battery life, Oppo seems poised to attract skeptics. As noted by GSM Arena, the Find N5’s 235-gram frame could set a new benchmark for the industry, forcing competitors to rethink their designs.

The Road Ahead

While foldables remain a niche segment, Oppo’s aggressive pricing and focus on ergonomics signal confidence in the category’s growth. With the Find N5, the company isn’t just launching a phone—it’s challenging the status quo. As Zhang Wei concluded, “This isn’t a prototype; it’s the future, and it’s lighter than you think.”

Stay tuned for hands-on reviews next week as the Find N5 begins its journey to redefine what a foldable can be.
